Prayers for beginning the day with God, reviewing it honestly, and resting in his care.
Morning Offering
O my God, I adore You, and I love You with my whole heart.
I thank You for having created me, made me a Christian,
and preserved me through the night.
I offer You all my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day.
Grant that they may be done according to Your holy will
and for Your greater glory.
Keep me from sin and from every evil.
May Your grace be always with me and with all those I love. Amen.
Prayer for Perseverance
Grant, O Lord Jesus Christ, that I may persevere in good purposes
and in Your holy service until death;
and that I may begin perfectly this day,
for all I have hitherto done is little. Amen.
Prayer to One’s Guardian Angel
Angel of God, to whose care I am committed by divine mercy,
enlighten, guard, direct, and govern me this day
in all my thoughts, words, and actions. Amen.
Brief Examination of Conscience
Pause quietly. Ask for light, review the day without anxiety, give thanks for grace, acknowledge sin honestly, and choose one concrete amendment for tomorrow.
- Where did I recognize and answer God’s grace today?
- Where did I fail in love of God or neighbor—in thought, word, deed, or omission?
- Do I need to make restitution, seek forgiveness, or repair a relationship?
- What grace do I most need tomorrow?
Evening Act of Contrition
O my God, I am sorry for all the sins of this day
and of my whole life, because they have offended You,
who are infinitely good and worthy of all love.
By Your grace I firmly purpose to confess my sins,
to make amends, to avoid the occasions of sin,
and to begin again in Your service. Amen.
Prayer Before Sleep
O Lord Jesus Christ, whose watchful eye neither slumbers nor sleeps,
receive me and all whom I love into Your protection this night.
Defend us from every danger and from all occasions of sin.
Let my sleep give rest to the body and strength to the soul,
that I may rise ready to serve You.
If this should be my last night, bring me safely to eternal life. Amen.
Prayer for the Dead
O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful,
grant to the souls of Your servants departed the remission of all their sins,
that through our prayers they may obtain the pardon they have always desired.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace. Amen.
Grace Before and After Meals
Before meals
Bless us, O Lord, and these Your gifts,
which we are about to receive from Your bounty,
through Christ our Lord. Amen.
After meals
We give You thanks, almighty God, for all Your benefits,
who live and reign for ever and ever. Amen.
